    Search Tips

When using more than one word in a search query, the search engine will return a list of results which consist of pages that match all of the keywords. For example, if the words "car" and "gas" were submitted to the search engine, it would return results of pages containing the keyword "car" as well as pages containing the keyword "gas." Search results can be refined by using any of the operators above - click on an operator to find out more details.

    "+" searches.

Using the plus sign ("+") operator, you can look for two or more words at once.

Example: car +gas will return page instances including the word "car" and including the word "gas."

    "-" searches.

If your search query has more than one meaning, you can narrow down the search results by putting a minus sign ("-") operator in front of the word you would like to filter out.

Example: car -gas will return page instances including the word "car" and not including the word "gas."

    "AND" searches.

Using the uppercase AND operator, you can look for two or more words at once.

Example: car AND gas will return page instances including the word "car" AND including the word "gas."

    "OR" searches.

To submit a search query which will search for either the word "car" or the word "gas," place an uppercase OR between the words.

Example: car OR gas will return page instances including the word "car" OR including the word "gas."

    "NOT" searches.

Using an uppercase NOT operator will allow you to exclude specific words from your searches.

Example: car NOT gas will return page instances including the word "car" and not including the word "gas."

    "( and )" searches.

If you wish to combine more than one keyword into a component which can be separated from another keyword, simply group the words inside brackets "( )."

Example: car OR (+gas +oil) will return results including the word "car" OR pages that include "gas" and oil."

    Phrase searches.

If your search query contains a specific phrase, you can enclose the phrase query in quotes to return search results containing words in that exact order.

Example: "Alberta refinery" will return results including the exact phrase, "Alberta refinery."
